Schedule

Job Summary

  • Structured Cabling Installer is responsible for having knowledge of established industry structured cable best practices, techniques and a commitment to safety. This position will include fiber optic cable, copper cable, coax cable and device installation in interior and outdoor environments. Installation Cameras, Access Points, cable dressing, tooling, plan reading, proper and safe equipment operations and accurate record keeping and reporting.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate & test low voltage, Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat6A computer network cabling, fiber optic cabling.
  • Professionally organize, form, dress and label pre-terminated low voltage cabling.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and terminate low voltage and computer network outlets to industry standards.
  • Knowledge and or Certification for safe operations of Man-Lift
  • Install cable and fire-stop material to industry standards.
  • Design and install network closet, racking, and corresponding equipment configurations.
  • Outdoor underground installation of Cable and/or Tracer wire including innerduct, maxcell and building entries/conduit. 
  • Interior Installation of Cable in cable tray, conduits or free wire in risers or ceiling including organizing, forming, dressing and labeling cables to industry standards in outlets, fire stopping, cabinets and racks.
  • Follows direction of the Foreman, Superintendent, and/or Area Manager for project schedules, materials, equipment, and crews.
  • Ability to read and understand building / construction plans and specifications
  • Physical ability to push/pull, hang, lift and carry cables and pathways including pipes, spans, and other industry hardware.
  • Ability to learn accurate termination and testing of copper and fiber optic cables to industry certification parameters utilizing appropriate test equipment.
  • Identify, troubleshoot and correct pathway problems. Removal and demolition or tag of abandoned cables.
  • Ability to learn and apply industry standards including ANSI, EIA/TIA, BICSI and local and National Electric Code.
  • Labeling at all access and end points of cables to company and industry standards.
  • Effectively operate hand and power tools. Maintenance and cleaning of equipment and machinery when needed.
  • Working in all types of weather conditions is a requirement, heat or cold. Rain and Snow.  PCS will continue to work in the event it remains safe and the AHJ does not cease operations on the jobsite. Job production is not determined by weather conditions.
  • In the event of bad weather days employees are NOT paid if they cannot work.

Job Requirements

  • The characteristics required to fill this position is of a self-starter that is task oriented, logical, detail-oriented person with excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to interface and communicate with customers clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work in all types of terrain and all types of environments (construction sites, industrial, private property, etc.) and all types of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift 85lbs with the help of another, climb ladders, work with heights up to 30 ft., and in tight or enclosed spaces.
  • Must be available for evening work on occasion.
  • The work can take place on new construction sites or existing occupied facilities and may include carrying and moving parts and equipment.
  • Accurately and consistently wear safety gear and operate safety equipment.
  • Some computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). Job Requires travel throughout the Southeast United States. PCS requires men to room 2 to a room when traveling in Company provided hotels/short term lodging.
  • Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license, a clean record and be insurable with our auto insurance carrier during course of employment.

Experience: Education & Certifications

  • High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college work or vocational or technical training program in electronics or communications may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Other recognized certifications that would be a plus would include manufacturers certifications as well as industry credentials such as BICSI, Fiber Optic Association, Forklift, OSHA and CPR.
