Schedule

  • 8-12 hour shift (this is just an average – changes depending on the day)
  • Start time: (Usually 6:30am – subject to change)
  • On call
  • Weekends as needed

Job Summary

  • Fiber Optics Foreman who has knowledge of established industry underground and aerial installation of Fiber Optic cable practices, techniques and a commitment to safety. Experience in pole attachments, cable placements, tooling, plan reading, proper and safe equipment operation and accurate record keeping are required for PCS and Employee success.
  • Foreman will know how to set up a OSHA Safe Work Zones and Maintenance of Traffic MUTCD standards. All Foreman must know for BICSI aerial clearance and underground placement standards as well as industry aerial and underground best practices and safety standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Self-starter, logical thinker, detail-oriented person with excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to interface and communicate with customers clearly and effectively
  • Follow safety rules and practices (Wearing PPE, Set-up Work Zone, Aerial/UG Techniques)
  • Know how to read and understand a print for the system(s) they are working on.
  • Understand the terminology use in underground and areal / line work.
  • Know proper cable pulling procedures including slack, sag and storage calculations.
  • Demonstrate an aptitude to learn the duties required in the Lineman position.
  • Install and repair aerial and underground communication cables (fiber optic, copper, coaxial)
  • Repair cut or damaged communication cables (fiber optic, copper, coaxial)
  • Placement of communication poles, anchors, guys, risers, heat-shrinks, dead ends, snowshoes
  • Know what safety equipment is used in line work and how to test and examine it before use
  • Know proper handling, storage and transporting of conduits, wire, pipe and materials
  • Know and understand the operation of support equipment; bucket trucks, trailers, lashers, digging equipment, vac-units, reel trailers, etc.
  • Use of mechanized equipment such as bucket truck, digger derrick, excavators, etc
  • Know proper methods of safely splicing conduits and stubbing up pipe and wire in to handholes, manholes, enclosures or buildings
  • Know Lockout I Tag-out and tagging procedures
  • Know electric Safety and how electricity works. (Static, AC, DC, Grounding, Phases, Step potential)
  • Restoration and landscape disturbed areas of the job site
  • Setting up safety perimeter using signage, cones, safety barriers
  • Flagging traffic when required
  • Site clean-up
  • Special projects as assigned

Job Requirements

  • The characteristics required to fill this position is of a self-starter that is task oriented, logical, detail-oriented person with excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to interface and communicate with customers clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work in all types of terrain and hazards (grass, gravel, ditches, etc.), all types of environments (construction sites, highways, industrial, private property, etc.) and all types of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift 85lbs with the help of another, climb ladders, work with heights up to 30 ft., and in tight or enclosed spaces.
  • Must be available for evening work on occasion.
  • The work can take place on new construction sites or existing occupied facilities and may include carrying and moving parts and equipment.
  • Accurately and consistently wear safety gear, and operate safety equipment, provided.
  • Some computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).Job Requires travel throughout the Southeast United States. PCS requires men to room 2 to a room when traveling in Company provided hotels/short term lodging.
  • Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license, a clean record and be insurable with our auto insurance carrier during course of employment.

Experience: Education & Certifications

  • High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college work or vocational or technical training program in electronics or communications may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Other recognized certifications that would be a plus would include BICSI, IMSA, ETA, Fiber Optic Association, Maintenance of Traffic, Forklift, OSHA and CPR.
